Foodsby New Features

Situation

Foodsby is a service platform that offers affordable lunchtime food delivery to customers in commercial office buildings. They have an effective crowd-sourced model in which restaurants sell to a number of workplaces and deliveries are done by the restaurant in bulk. Foodsby informed me that many first-time users hesitate when placing their first order or have long pauses before they place their second order. Foodsby believes this is being caused due to users not understanding or finding value in the food ordering and delivery process. The restaurants offered through Foodsby change on a day to day basis and there is a cut off time for users to place their order.

 Competitive Audit

I compared the Foodsby website and mobile app to multiple prominent food delivery companies. I found that Foodsby’s business model was unique and one of the biggest strengths that their model has is the $1.99 food delivery fee. Their website has solid hierarchy that makes the site easy to navigate. Areas of opportunity that I discovered on the site were that the entire ordering process wasn’t explained well on the home page and that could make it difficult for new users to take an interest in the service. I also found that there’s not an obvious quick order options for users or a way for them to ask for specific restaurants. My competitive audit can be found here.

Journey Map

I created a user journey map so that I could gain an overall understanding of the Foodsby ordering process. I created a persona named Emily who is a senior manager at a call center in Minneapolis. This map made it clear where pain points would arise in the process and it helped me develop places of opportunity. I took this information and dove into creating low fidelity wireframes.

 Feature Card Prototype Sketches

I created low fidelity prototypes and descriptions with the intention of presenting them to Foodsby developers. As I created the prototypes I kept in the mind the potential budget and time limitations that Foodsby might have. The sketches are focused on making the user feel more connected with their ordering process. My hypothesis is that it would lead to more repeat business.

I had a group discussion with Foodsby software developers regarding my wireframes. They reviewed the wireframes based upon the time it would take to develop the feature and the budget of the business. Afterwards I decided to move forward with creating a high fidelity prototype for the food vote feature and the quick order feature.
